Lawn renovation

Lawn renovation

When people mow for the first time they too often find bare patches. So when the lawn starts to look a little tired and sparse, a renovation programme can bring it back to life remarkably quickly.

If there are noticeable bare patches in your lawn, then a overseeding in either spring or autumn is required. Find out more in our overseeding (repairing lawn patches) guide

Find out more about our lawn renovation pack, containing all the tools you’ll need to get you lawn looking back to its best.

Step-by-Step guide

Tools needed:
Lawn rake
Lawn aerator
Grass seed

Take a look at our Seeding Kit for a great value tool set

1 Start by raking your lawn as raking (scarifying) removes unsightly moss and eliminates the smothering surface thatch of dried grass. Rake vigorously across the grass

2 Use an aerator to open up the soil in your lawn, relieving compaction and waterlogging.

3 To improve the condition of the soil, you could brush a top-dressing into the soil or for heavier soils add sand or fine grit to aid drainage.

TOP TIPS

Kill off any moss a week or so before scarifying, to prevent it from spreading to other areas.
