How to mow a lawn effectively
By following our Lawn Maintenance Schedule, you’ll know that you need to mow your lawn regularly from March onwards.
If you follow this simple advice, you’ll encourage healthy, lush-looking grass and deter weeds.
The height should cut grass at depends on the type of grass you have (take a look at the Lawn Maintenance Schedule or our grass identification guide)
Step-by-Step guide
1. Check the blade of your mower is set at the correct height, remembering to raise it a little higher than normal for the first few cuts of the year.
2. Mowing a lawn is much easier if you have a good clean edge (see our guide on How to cut a clean edge).
3. Try to keep updated with the mowing frequency on our schedule – it will help keep the lawn looking at its best.
4. Once you’ve finished mowing your lawn, compost grass cuttings as they will rot down and add nutrients to the soil. In the height of summer, if you lawn is looking dry, leave the cuttings on the lawn and it will help it retain moisture.
Top Tips
Save time by choosing the right mower for your needs.
For example, a hover mower copes well on an uneven surface, whereas, a large powered mower makes quick work of larger lawns.
